Piano lessons

A favourite starter instrument for the kids and I think I have the skill to keep them motivated. Lessons are fun and I soon have them playing tunes they love. It's a little challenging to read both music clefs at first, but then they are in a great position for adding further instruments to their repertoire later. Whilst primarily a piano teacher I can also teach the basic chords for those wishing to learning keyboard techniques.

Lesson for adults

I welcome learners of all ages, it’s never too late to learn. Many pupils take up learning an instrument as a retirement project. Others return to it having given up as child or having had a family. It’s your musical journey and I see my role to keep you inspired and offer you opportunities to perform with others and to celebrate your progress. Some adults never perform outside their home. Others enjoy our little concerts between pupils and their families, or carols in care homes, or there are others travel across Kent and Sussex enjoying the competitive nature of festivals and the feedback it provides from adjudicators.

What age can my child start?

Each learner is unique, as is every child. The youngest pupils we have found ready, to date, have been 4 years of age. By 4 years they can enjoy the stories and games set in the Wunderkeys Series of tuition books. These books are well design to introduce concepts such as long and short notes, high and low pitch, using both hands, control of individual digits. Short periods of time can be spent at the piano, intersperse with listening games, counting games and talking through the exercises presented by the story characters e.g. Thumbelina Thumb and Middleton Mouse.
